Jaybird Senior Living has announced a virtual dementia education series called Caring Corner. The series will launch on February 28th at 11:30am via Zoom. The first topic of the series is 10 Signs of Alzheimer’s: what to watch for from your loved one.
Anyone that has watched somebody they love suffer from a dementia-related disease knows how heartbreaking it is to watch this progressive illness affect all aspects of who individuals are as a person; not just their memory.
Designed with caregivers, family members, friends, and loved ones, the year-long education series will be taught by Marcie Durian and myself, Briget Meyer. We are both certified educators by the Alzheimer’s Association and have spent the majority of our careers helping those with dementia as well as their families cope with the disease.
Dementia diagnoses have increased by 16% during the COVID-19 pandemic as isolation has contributed to quicker progression of symptoms. Dementia and Alzheimer’s are now the 7th leading cause of death in the world, killing more people than breast and prostate cancer combined.
If you are concerned about a loved one affected by dementia or aren't sure what signs and symptoms to look for, tune in to Caring Corner. You can Register for the Series on Zoom.
As a proud National Team for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising awareness of dementia related diseases is a cause near and dear to Jaybird. But our aspirations don’t stop there. Together with the Alzheimer’s Association, we raise funds annually to advance vital research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.
We will continue to fight for a cure and raise awareness about all forms of dementia for all the families, residents in our communities and for the 6 million people currently living with the disease.
